Copyright and web monitoring: what’s changing in 2027

Copyright and web monitoring: what’s changing in 2027

The directory of the Centre Français de la Copie (CFC), the French copyright collecting society, is expanding significantly. From 2027, this expansion will come with a change in royalties. Cikisi is also adjusting its management fees to limit the impact on its customers, while reaffirming its commitment to strategic intelligence that respects copyright.

A CFC directory enriched with 225 new French websites

The Centre Français de la Copie (CFC) catalogue continues to grow with the addition of 225 new French websites. This brings the directory to 982 sites in France, plus 1,039 sites in the United Kingdom.

This expansion broadens the range of sources available to companies that want to monitor their economic, technological, industry and competitive environment within a framework that complies with copyright regulations.

Newly listed media and publications include:

  • Public radio and broadcasting: franceinfo.fr, franceinter.fr, ici.fr, franceculture.fr, francemusique.fr and mouv.fr.
  • News, economy and society: Public Sénat, Alternatives Économiques, Nice-Matin, Marsactu and Causeur.
  • Technology and digital: 01net.com, Presse-citron, Journal du Geek, Silicon and Le Monde Informatique.
  • Aerospace and defence: Air & Cosmos.
  • Science and health: Pour la Science, Prescrire, La Revue du Praticien and Hospimedia.
  • Culture, lifestyle and tourism: Marie France, Le Film Français, Rolling Stone France, Première, VSD, Numéro and L’Écho Touristique.

These new sources cover a wide range of fields and expand the monitoring possibilities available to companies using Cikisi.

Cikisi’s Customer teams will gradually integrate them into the community Web index, available to customers who pay the CFC royalty.

Please note: from 1 January 2027, linforme.com will leave the CFC directory. Cikisi will take the necessary technical measures to block its crawling under the “Copyright CFC” category.

CFC royalties: a price change on 1 January 2027

Following the expansion of its catalogue, the CFC will apply a 10% increase to its annual royalties from 1 January 2027.

The new amounts announced are as follows:

Geographic areaAnnual royalty (excl. VAT)
France and Monaco€880
Other French-speaking countries€300
Other countries€150

This change reflects the expansion of the directory and the broader range of content covered by the collective copyright management scheme.

Cikisi reduces its management fees to limit the impact of this increase

To support its customers through this price change, Cikisi has decided to reduce its management fees related to collecting the CFC royalty.

These fees cover in particular the management of anonymised quarterly crawl declarations, the processing of URLs with the CFC, and the monitoring of invoicing and retro-payments.

From 28 October 2026, Cikisi’s management fees will be capped at a flat rate of 10%.

This measure reflects Cikisi’s commitment to keeping the costs of regulated monitoring under control and to continuing to support its customers in using their information sources.

Strategic intelligence and copyright: a lasting commitment from Cikisi

Protecting copyright, funding quality journalism and recognising journalistic work are essential issues for the future of professional information.

At a time when AI-generated content is multiplying and automated monitoring agents are becoming widespread, respecting the rights attached to editorial content is becoming a central concern for businesses.

The fact that content is available online does not mean it can be freely collected, reproduced or distributed. The applicable conditions depend in particular on the rights involved, the permissions obtained and the legal framework in which the content is used.

AI monitoring agents, including tools developed in-house by companies, must therefore also respect the rights that apply to the content they collect and reproduce.

Cikisi is part of this approach, offering a strategic intelligence solution that enables its customers to work within a framework suited to the applicable regulatory requirements.

Cikisi is one of the platforms officially licensed by the CFC

Cikisi is one of the monitoring platforms officially licensed by the CFC, according to the list published by the organisation.

This licence is part of a compliance approach that gives users an authorised framework for the uses it covers.

By supporting initiatives that reconcile access to information, technological innovation and respect for copyright, Cikisi helps promote responsible and sustainable monitoring.

Cikisi, a partner for responsible monitoring

The expansion of the CFC directory, the change in royalties and the adjustment of management fees mark a new step in supporting companies that use monitoring solutions.

Beyond these price changes, Cikisi reaffirms one conviction: the value of strategic intelligence lies not only in access to relevant information, but also in respecting the rights that govern how it is collected and used.

Cikisi invites its French-speaking customers to join this collective effort, in support of quality information, responsible innovation and sustainable funding for journalism.
